“Hardee’s” Buttermilk Biscuits (makes approx. 16 biscuits, depending on the size of your biscuit cutter)
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 C. self rising flour
- 1/8 C. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 C. vegetable shortening, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 C. buttermilk
- 1/4 C. tap water
- 3T. melted butter
Instructions
In a bowl combine the flour, sugar and baking powder. Add the cooled shortening, buttermilk and tap water. Stir to combine then turn out onto a floured surface and knead till the dough is all combined. Roll the dough out to 1/2″ thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter and place on a greased sheet pan. Continue until all the dough is used. Let the biscuits sit for 5 minutes before placing them in a preheated 425 degree oven (the recipe called for 450 degrees but I don’t like baking at that high of a temp.) Bake for 12-15 minutes until nice and golden on top. Brush with melted butter once removed from the oven.
